Bantwal: A private bus and an Omni car collided head-on on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway near Mani here on Friday, bringing in severe injuries to the Omni driver.

The Omni driver has been identified as Mohan (32), a resident of Budoli.

The accident took place when the car was proceeding from Mangaluru towards Uppinangady while the bus was plying towards Mangaluru.

It is learnt that a snake suddenly spotted in front of a moving car. To avoid hitting the reptile, the driver of the vehicle applied sudden. The bus driver, who was just behind the car, could not control, in turn, rammed into the Omni which was moving in the opposite direction.

Mangaluru: A case has been registered against a man from Maninalkur village in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district for attending a wedding three days after testing positive for coronavirus, police said.

Rajesh Poojary attended the function at Karkala on Thursday, the police said. He had tested positive for COVID-19 on May 10 and had been directed by authorities to remain in isolation for two weeks, they said.

The incident came to light on Thursday when a team of officials led by a project development officer (PDO) visited his house, they said.

Based on a complaint filed by the PDO, a case has been registered against Poojary, they added.
