New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday expressed surprise over the sheer number of legal filings relating to the management of stray dogs, observing that such an extraordinary volume of applications is rarely seen even in cases involving human rights.
A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta made the observation when several lawyers sought urgent mention of fresh pleas connected to the issue. Justice Mehta remarked that the court was witnessing an unusually intense flow of interlocutory applications, noting that matters concerning humans often do not attract such extensive litigation.
The court said the matter would be taken up for a detailed hearing on…

Discussion should be over CM’s quality of work rather than tenure duration: Bommai
Gadag: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai has opined that instead of discussing the tenure of CM Siddaramaiah, there should be a discussion about his quality of governance. He made the remarks while addressing media persons in the city on Tuesday.
The incumbent Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, became the longest-serving CM of the State, breaking the record of former Chief Minister Devaraj Urs.
“Some are saying that Siddaramaiah has served as the CM for the longest period. The main discussion should focus on what he has achieved during those days, rather than how long he has been the Chief Minister,” said Bommai.

Mangaluru: The Youth Wing of Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) was formally launched at a ceremony held at the Ocean Pearl Hotel in Mangaluru on January 6, 2026. The event brought together business leaders, professionals, and members of the Beary community to discuss entrepreneurship, community growth, and the role of trade in shaping the future.
The programme began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Badruddin Panambur. Nissar Fakeer Mohammed, Secretary of the chamber, welcomed the gathering and also served as the Master of Ceremony for the event.
The keynote address was delivered by General Secretary of BCCI Mohammed Imthiyaz, who explained the reasons and objectives behind the formation of the Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He spoke at length about the shortcomings faced by the Beary community as a business community when compared to other established business communities in India. He said these gaps could be addressed through focused efforts, especially by encouraging the younger generation to think beyond traditional limitations and actively enter the world of business and entrepreneurship. He urged the youth to work towards making the Beary community a leading force among business communities in the country.
Guest speaker Yezdani Feroze, in his address, said the Beary community has the potential to lead Muslims in India through trade and business. He stated that the world does not reward hard work alone, but rewards people who think, adding that entrepreneurs are essentially professional thinkers. He stressed that the Muslim ummah cannot afford to produce more job seekers and must instead focus on creating job providers and history makers.
Highlighting the importance of ideas, he said every object around us, from mobile phones and laptops to simple chairs, was once an idea in someone’s mind. He noted that every revolution and invention began as an idea that someone refused to let go. He called for the creation of idea forums to support young entrepreneurs and help them develop and work on their ideas.
During the programme, M A Gafoor, newly appointed Chairman of the Coastal Development Authority, was felicitated. Shahid Thekkil, Chairman of the Karnataka Minimum Wage Board Commission, was also honoured on the occasion.
In his address, M A Gafoor thanked the organisers for the felicitation and for recognising his achievement. He affirmed his commitment to the development of coastal Karnataka and said he would focus on promoting tourism in the region. Shahid Thekkil also spoke at the event and expressed hope that the Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry would play a key role in creating more entrepreneurs from the community.
The presidential address was delivered by S M Rashid Haji, who thanked all the guests and participants for attending the launch programme. He officially announced the inauguration of the Youth Wing of the Bearys Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Four coordinators were appointed for the Youth Wing: Zeeshan Ramlan, CEO of Talentzy, Asshar Razaq, Ayaan Haris, and Muhammed Shahbaz.
Explaining the purpose behind launching the Youth Wing, he said the initiative was not just about opening a new wing or holding monthly meetings, but about creating entrepreneurs and contributing to long-term community building.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by BCCI Treasurer Mansoor Ahmed.Edited10:40 pm
