New Delhi: India on Friday secured the released of four members of a shipping crew who were detained by Nigerian authorities in August.

"I am happy to inform that we have secured the return of Capt. Atul Sharma, Sudhir Kumar, Balvinder Singh and Viyas Yadav to India," External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted.

"I appreciate the efforts of B.N.Reddy, Indian High Commissioner in Nigeria. We thank Nigerian authorities for their help," she said.

The crew belonged to the commercial ship "Sea Pearl" detained by the Nigerian Navy in a case pertaining to 2012. 

The vessel belonged to a Mumbai-based shipping firm.

Bantwal: Police in Bantwal Taluk have arrested a man in connection with the theft of four cattle reported from Peruvai village, officials said on Friday.

According to a report published by Deccan Herald, the incident occurred on November 18, within the limits of Vitla police station. The cattle, belonging to Ganesh Rai and Narayana Naik, were allegedly stolen from the society premises in Peruvai village after they were taken out for grazing.

Following a complaint filed by Ganesh Rai, Vitla police registered a case and launched an investigation. Based on the probe, police arrested the accused, identified as Zulfhan Malik (30), a resident of Kodi in Ullal village, on Thursday.

The accused was produced before the jurisdictional court and remanded to police custody. Further investigation is underway, police said.
