Bengaluru: Karnataka experienced a surge in liquor sales, with a total of Rs 716.58 crore worth of alcohol sold between December 28 and the afternoon of December 31, according to data from the Federation of Wine Merchants Association Karnataka.

The sales included 6.97 lakh carton boxes of beer and 11.05 lakh carton boxes of Indian Made Liquor (IML), totaling 18.03 lakh carton boxes, as reported by Deccan Herald.

IML sales accounted for Rs 577.75 crore, while beer sales contributed Rs 138.33 crore to the overall figure.

The state has also seen a year-on-year growth of 4.63 percent in liquor sales revenue between April and December 2024, though the figures revealed some volatility in month-to-month performance. For instance, liquor sales dipped by 9.86 percent in July and 11.78 percent in December, while May and September saw sharp increases of about 27 percent each.

The lacklustre performance in December, despite the festive period, could be attributed to New Year’s Eve falling on a weekday in 2024, compared to a Sunday in 2023. The report added that factors such as the timing of holidays and people leaving the city to celebrate in their home state contribute to the fluctuations in month-wise sales.

Mumbai (PTI): Aviation watchdog DGCA on Friday eased the flight duty norms by allowing substitution of leaves with a weekly rest period amid massive operational disruptions at IndiGo, according to sources.

As per the revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms, "no leave shall be substituted for weekly rest", which means that weekly rest period and leaves are to be treated separately. The clause was part of efforts to address fatigue issues among the pilots.

Citing IndiGo flight disruptions, sources told PTI that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has decided to withdraw the provision 'no leave shall be substituted for weekly rest' from the FDTL norms.

"In view of the ongoing operational disruptions and representations received from various airlines regarding the need to ensure continuity and stability of operations, it has been considered necessary to review the said provision," DGCA said in a communication dated December 5.

The gaps in planning ahead of the implementation of the revised FDTL, the second phase of which came into force from November 1, have resulted in crew shortage at IndiGo and is one of the key reasons for the current disruptions.
