Sangh Parivar and BJP know well enough that before splitting the country, one needs to divide the minds that are in solidarity. They have used this tactic during pre-independence and have even been successful at it. When the whole country was coming together in solidarity, the Hindutva nationalists saw the possibility of two nations. India was fighting hard for its independence under the leadership of Gandhiji, but the those who propagated Hindutva were drawing up a map of how the country could be split in the name of dharma. They planted insecurity among Muslims that they had to have their own nation; and the free India would be a nation that had Hindu dominance.
It was soft Hindutvavadis such as Lala Lajpat Rai that first proposed the idea of two nation theory. And leaders such as Bala Gangadhar Tilak planted parts of Manu-ideology in the pretext of freedom struggle and helped them thrive among people. The ideas he had about women accessing education were very primitive. He had totally opposed the thought of women getting educated and attaining total self-reliance. The conspiracy of Hindu Maha Sabha of turning India into a brahminical hegemony was defeated owing to leader such as Gandhi, Nehru and Ambedkar. This angered the Hindu Mahasabha and they had Gandhi killed eventually at the hands of Nathuram Godse.
After India became free, Sangh Parivar has been adapting different strategies to divide the nation under many pretexts. Gomata, terrorism, extremism, Kashmiri Pandits, so on and so forth. The scheme has successfully driven wedges into people’s minds emotionally at least. Now, the new strategy to create friction is out in the name of creating labels such as who would be Indians and who would be classified as migrants. This even has a backing of statistics. As part of that operation, the government is all set to have people fight with each other in North Eastern states, categorizing people as citizens of the country, and illegal immigrants. The final draft of National Register of Citizens has been released in Assam on Monday.
Though the BJP is claiming that NRC is as per the agreement Rajiv Gandhi had proposed and entered into an agreement; the conspiracy of BJP and Sangh Parivar of dividing people is now out in the open. BJP had created conducive situation for people to clash with each other in the name of immigrants and natives of Assam. Now it is deploying NRC to further fuel the fire.
All those people whom NRC is categorizing as ‘illegal immigrants’ are not infiltrators; but were people who came into the country rightfully as labourers. They are living here since at least two generations. They are now as Indians as anybody can be. Now to call them as immigrants would be very tragic. Lakhs of Indians go to live in America for a decade and earn a right to have a green card to be known as American nationals. But here, we are denying the right to people living here since generations as a right to live as people of this land, despite knowing that they came to work in this country.
This is another conspiracy by BJP to divide the North Eastern region of India. BJP has already been successful in creating rift in the minds of people in Kashmir while it shared power with PDP, and has trained guns on North East now. The main agenda of NRC is to divide the people and through them, the political narrative as natives or citizens, and immigrants. Through this, they’d be setting up locals against those who are classified to be immigrants. And this would create one more Rohingya kind of situation in Assam to create more refugees. Rohingya created 20 lakh refugees, but the Assam refugees would come up to a whopping 40 lakh! Tragedy is, though people voted last time in elections, chances are they’d be known as illegal immigrants too.
The draft keeps out even some who have Aadhar card to prove their citizenship. Most surprising fact is that the names of former Vice President Fakruddin Ali’s family members are also missing from the list. Now when the high and mighty are suffering this way, what would be the situation of common people or illiterate labourers? We have witnessed people unable to access facilities and having died for not possessing the Aadhar card, across the country. There are lakhs and crores of labourers who live without even a single document on them such as Aadhar, or voter id or even ration cards. They dwell in the dirty slums, or extremely underdeveloped villages; like cob stones, tucked away in the darkness of poverty. Can they be classified as illegal dwellers? It is the duty of the government to identify them and provide them the proof of their identity and citizenship. The government shouldn’t come down to eradicating their existence owing to lack of identity.
This strategy of denying citizenship to people living in the state/country since four decades or more is just the same as the one Hitler employed against the Jews to finish them off from his country. This would work as a massive disadvantage to India than benefit the nation.
We have heard politically-motivated accusations that illegal immigrants from Bangladesh carry out extremist activities. This could also have good amount of truth in it. But owing to this, to classify the labourers in Assam as extremists and unleash a civil attack on them would render India very vulnerable. This will lead to increasing terrorism and violence, and may be, this violence is the need of Sangh Parivar too. They are dividing North East to further their political agenda. This will definitely not reap good results for the nation.
