Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam actor and well-known production controller Kannan Pattambi passed away late Sunday night while undergoing treatment for a kidney-related illness. He was 62.

According to a report published by NDTV, the death was confirmed by his elder brother, filmmaker Major Ravi, who said Pattambi breathed his last at around 11.40 pm at a private hospital in Kozhikode.

The funeral will be held on Monday at 4 p.m. at his residence in Njanganthiri, Pattambi.

Major Ravi shared the news through a Facebook post written in Malayalam, in which he informed followers about the time of death and funeral arrangements, and paid tribute to his younger brother.

Kannan Pattambi had a long association with the Malayalam film industry, where he worked extensively as a production controller and also appeared in several films as an actor. He was particularly known for his close professional collaboration with Major Ravi, a former Indian Army officer who later turned filmmaker.

He was involved in the production of several films directed or produced by Major Ravi, including Mission 90 Days, which was based on Major Ravi’s experiences during the investigation into the assassination of former Rajiv Gandhi.

Kannan Pattambi also worked on multiple films starring Mohanlal, most notably Pulimurugan, which became the first Malayalam film to cross the ₹100-crore mark at the box office.

Dhanbad (PTI): A five-year-old boy was mauled to death by stray dogs in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district, police said on Sunday.

The incident happened on Friday at Yadav Basti in Bholanath Baseria, within the Goududih police outpost, when the boy stepped out to play, they said.

"The victim boy was mauled to death after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs. The incident happened when the boy was playing a short distance from his house. Due to severe injuries, he died on the spot," said Lov Choudhary, the officer in charge of Gondudih police station.

The OC said that the bereaved family members approached the police station and demanded compensation. They were then asked to send the victim's body for a post-mortem examination, but they refused.
