The vibrant konkani community has explored new possibilities in Education, business, art and services apart from Agriculture. World wide the presence is marked by unitedly working in the associations and serving for the community.

Art, culture and folklore are  richly inherited by the community,  exhibited with innovative ways bringing closer young and the old minds. Producing a Cinema in konkani was a distant dream for Konkani lovers due to its glamour, investment, limited target Audience and geography of the konkani community.

With all these  limitations it's surprising to note so far 100 konkani movies have been produced since 1955. Mangalore ans, Goans, GSB's & RSB's have equally contributed with productions. The real magic of the movie is experienced by the viewers with the  newly released PAYANN (Journey) as the narrative is beautifully expressed as a 'timeless legacy'.

In the first 10 days since its release it has created a new chapter and a new hope in the konkani entertainment world.

Neeta peres and Yodling king Melwyn peres have produced this movie under the banner  Sangeet Ghar productions. Versatile talent of konkani, Sangeet Guru Joel Pereira has written the screenplay and directed the movie PAYANN.

The story line of PAYANN  around the life of a singer, gives the flavour of Mangalorean music, touching various aspects of life. Struggles, Suffering, working for the cause of charity, love, zeal and passion are picturised effectively. A positive attitude instilled by his(Heros) teacher wrapped in his life's journey is the essence which has captured the hearts and minds of the viewer.

'Cinema is a matter of what's in the frame and what's out' - said American Film maker Martin Scorsese. In Modern times capturing the audience is more important than capturing the Shots in a camera. Keeping the taste, touching the emotions, inspiring with the storyline and receiving the accolades at the end is a Hercules task. PAYANN with its limitations in budget, restricted viewership, keeping the geographical boundaries to the konkani people has come out with flying colours within the first two weeks of its screening..... Kudos to Mr and Mrs Melwyn Peres and Joel Pereira.

Out of the Box:

Even though the storyline is about the  life of a singer. PAYANN has Scripted with real life incidents of many famous and well-known artists. This is the real flavour of PAYANN which you actually taste, says Joel Pereira. We have not focused on glamourous Sets for the shooting, rather how konkani music is grown in Mangalore is shown within our means.  Songs composed by Melwyn peris are his old compositions, but popular numbers, without diverting from the core line songs fit into the storyline. Techno based music with a modern blend to the songs gives a new touch and soul soothing experience. Rynel, Deepak, Melroy, Lavita and Bindu have given their melodious voice.

Background score by Roshan Dsouza, camera man Mr Ramanna and editor Mavin Pinto. These three are the strong pillars of this production team, apart from the singers and technicians.

Thrill, Suspense and love:

You cannot gauge this cinema with one angle. Storyline which captivates the audience with the  opening dialogue...where is Christy?

As the investigating reporter Lorsu,  approaches the Teacher (of Christy)Dhanu Siker makes him travel back in the memory lane.

Unfolding the ups and downs of Christy, his passion and desire to pursue a career as a singer. There takes the twist with love, murder and health. The entire story is beautifully narrated by Dhanu Siker as teacher to the reporter.

Finally his journey takes an unexpected end which makes the viewer to ponder over the timeless legacy only an artist can leave behind. During the conversation Reporter rightly mentions an artist never dies, instead somewhere  he remains shining like a twinkling star.

Characters who etch impressions:

The entire caste has played its role so beautifully, it's hard to believe many of them faced cameras for the first time. Their expressions are excellent,  in some of the scenes they are much better than any leading movie stars.

Brian sequeira, Rynel Sequeira, Jasmine Dsouza, kate Pereira, Shaina and Melisha are the new faces who mesmerized the audience.

Leslie Rego, Gerry Rasquinha, Jeevan vas, Walter Nandalike, Jossie Rego, Albert Peris, Clament Lobo, Allwyn Danty, Denver Peris and Arun Noronha who have done the magic with their roles. Avil Dcruz of Urban Group is the choreographer who has painted the songs with appropriate steps by his troupe.

Ratings and reviews:

So far social media is flooded with praises and accolades to the entire team of PAYANN. Book my show movie  rating itself is a proof of acceptance. IMDB is a worldwide renowned cinema rating agency that has placed Payann as the second best movie in konkani. Reviews by intellectuals and critics places PAYANN a new milestone in konkani cinema. PAYANN  has created a new bench mark for all future productions.

With this success PAYANN will be released worldwide where the presence of the  konkani community is marked with a considerable number. Many associations are eagerly waiting for the screening of PAYANN. May this journey create more memories with an endless legacy.

Mahnisagar, Oct 30: Gujarat Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani on Wednesday demanded the suspension of Mahisagar District Collector Neha Kumari, accusing her of making anti-Dalit comments, a charge the bureaucrat rejected.

Mevani’s demand comes a week after he sought similar action against senior IPS officer Rajkumar Pandian for allegedly misbehaving with him and one of his party colleagues.

Mevani targeted Kumari citing a purported video in which she was heard saying that 90 per cent of cases registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, or the Atrocities Act, are used for blackmailing.

The IAS officer termed the lawmaker’s claims “baseless” and an unsuccessful attempt to get political mileage.

Mevani visited Lunawada, the district headquarters, and demanded that an FIR be registered against the collector under the Atrocities Act and that she was suspended over her “insensitive” remarks and “unparliamentary” words.

When one Vijay Parmar went to meet the collector with his grievance at the SWAGAT programme on October 23, she used “unparliamentary” words against him and also insulted the lawyer community by saying they should be “slapped with slippers”, the Vadgam MLA told reporters.

SWAGAT is an initiative of the Gujarat government for the redressal of people’s grievances.

According to Mevani, the collector’s claim that 90 per cent of cases under the Atrocities Act are misused for blackmailing is an insult to the SC and ST communities and amounts to an offence under the Atrocities Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

“We demand Kumari's suspension and that a case be registered against her,” he said.

The district collector called the MLA’s allegations a “political stunt”.

“The man whom the MLA called poor, innocent young friend (Vijay Parmar) has a police case against him, and his brother has more than one case of rape, kidnapping and assault against him,” Kumari said, adding that they keep visiting the collector’s office with grievances.

At the SWAGAT programme on October 23, he pressured the collector to file a case against police officers. When the collector told him that she did not have the power to file a case and that he should approach the superintendent of police (SP) or the court, he continued to pester her over his issue, she said.

He even threatened the officers and told the collector that she was a Brahmin and he would let her know what “section 4 of the Atrocities Act entailed”, she said.

“You can understand the direction in which this MLA wants to take law and order by keeping a person with a criminal history along with him even when the state government is sensitive about children and women,” she said.

The collector said that the way Vijay Parmar is “blackmailing” government employees in the name of the Atrocities Act is not at all right. “The MLA's support to such people makes it difficult for the real complainants and the real victims to get justice,” she said.

Last week, Congress leaders and Dalit community members gathered outside the office of the Director General of Police in the state capital Gandhinagar demanding the suspension of senior IPS officer Rajkumar Pandian over his alleged misbehaviour with Mevani and his party colleague.
