Bengaluru: Veteran Kannada actress Jayanthi (76)  who had been unwell for some time reportedly passed away on Sunday night.

The senior actress who has acted in more than 500 films was known and titled as ‘Abhinaya Sharade’ by her admirers.

In her acting career, she has acted alongside Dr. Raj Kumar in 45 films. The actress who was born in Ballary has had an illustrious movie career in which she has acted alongside the Kannada movie industry’s big names such as Vishnuvardhan, Uday Kumar, Kalyan Kumar, and Shrinath.

New Delhi: The second phase of Lok Sabha elections kicked off this morning in thirteen states, including Karnataka. In total, 88 constituencies, including 14 in Karnataka, are part of this phase.

In Kerala, prominent figures such as senior Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Rahul Gandhi are among those contesting. Voting commenced at 7 am across all constituencies.

Across Kerala's 20 constituencies, significant voter turnout was observed, with long queues forming outside polling booths since early hours. Meanwhile, voting also began in BalurGhat, West Bengal, as part of the process to elect representatives for three out of the state's 42 constituencies.

Keen competition is underway in Kerala's Wayanad and Thiruvananthapuram constituencies. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi finds himself in a three-cornered contest against BJP's K. Surendran and CPI's Ani Raja. In several constituencies, the polling duration has been extended until 6 pm to accommodate voters.

Voting is going on in 5 Lok Sabha constituencies of Assam, 5 of Bihar, 3 of Chhattisgarh, 14 of Karnataka, 20 of Kerala, 7 of Madhya Pradesh, 8 of Maharashtra, 1 of Manipur, 13 of Rajasthan, 1 of Tripura, 8 of Uttar Pradesh, 3 of West Bengal and 1 of Jammu and Kashmir.
