New Delhi, Sep 11 : Telecom major Reliance Jio on Tuesday said social media platform WhatsApp would be available on all JioPhones by September 20, 2018.

The application has been available on the JioPhone AppStore from Monday, September 10, Reliance Jio said in a statement.

According to the Reliance Industries' telecom subsidiary, WhatsApp has built a new version of the private messaging app for JioPhone, run by Jio-KaiOS, which can be downloaded on both the JioPhone and the JioPhone 2.

"During this movement of connecting the unconnected, many partners came forward to strengthen the cause. One such partner who has really stood by us from the beginning is Facebook and its ecosystem," said Akash Ambani, Director, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited.

"The result of one such partnership is out for the world to see today. We will be providing WhatsApp, the most used chat application in the world, on all JioPhones starting today. Jio wants to thank the Facebook and WhatsApp team for making this happen."

JioPhones already have Facebook, YouTube and Google Maps from August 15 this year.

Pudukkottai: Education authorities in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukkottai district have launched an inquiry after a video went viral showing three students of a government primary school allegedly cleaning the institution’s toilets.

The incident reportedly took place at the Panchayat Union Primary School in Namanasamuthiram Kudiyiruppu. The video, cited by The New Indian Express on Monday, shows two boys in school uniforms filling buckets and scrubbing toilets, while a third is seen sweeping inside the toilet.

The school, which has around 30 students from Classes 1 to 5, is reportedly staffed by only two teachers.

District education officials mentioned that they had begun looking into the issue on Saturday, following directions from District Collector M Aruna, even before the video went viral. While many social media users alleged that students were forced to do the cleaning by school staff, officials quoted by the news outlet said such claims could only be verified after a thorough field visit.

“The video could also be an old one. We were unable to visit the school immediately. However, a team of officers will be sent to the school on Monday for investigation,” TNIE quoted an education official as saying.

So far, authorities have not confirmed the date when the video was recorded or whether such practices have occurred earlier at the school.
