NC Chief Farooque Abdullah on Tuesday announced Omar Abdullah as the new Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. The announcement came shortly after it became evident that their party along with its allies have secured the majority of the seats in the assembly elections.

The Congress secured significant victories in the Muslim-dominated Assembly constituencies of Nuh, Ferozepur Jhirka, and Punahana in Haryana. These regions had witnessed communal tensions last year in July.

As per the latest updates, the BJP has crossed the halfway mark, leading on 48 seats, while Congress is ahead on 33 seats.
