Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed corridor: Trains to zip through Zaroli tunnel at 350 kmph

 In a significant breakthrough, engineers have completed the first mountain tunnel on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor through which trains will zip past at a speed of 350 km per hour, officials said.

The 350-metre-long horse-shoe shape tunnel has been built to perfect alignment in the mountains of Zaroli village near here as even a minor flaw could play spoilsport.

Govt issues notices to X, YouTube, Telegram to remove child sexual abuse material

The government has issued notices to social media platforms X, formerly Twitter, YouTube and Telegram to remove child sexual abuse material from their platforms in India, an official statement said on Friday.

Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajiv Chandrasekhar said if social media intermediaries do not act swiftly, their safe harbour under section 79 of the IT Act would be withdrawn, implying that the platforms can be directly prosecuted under the applicable laws and rules even though the content may have not been uploaded by them.

SC questions Bihar govt on publishing caste survey numbers, but no bar on releasing further data

The Supreme Court Friday questioned the Bihar government as to why it published its caste survey data but refused to restrain it from making public further data, and said it may examine if the state has power to conduct such an exercise.

A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and S V N Bhatti issued a formal notice on a batch of pleas challenging the August 1 order of the Patna High Court that gave the go-ahead for the caste survey in Bihar.

 

Rs 3.43 lakh cr of Rs 2,000 notes came back, public can return notes in RBI offices post Oct 8: Das

Governor Shaktikanta Das on Friday said Rs 3.43 lakh crore of Rs 2,000 denomination notes have come back to the system so far, and reminded the public that they can return the withdrawn notes at 19 RBI offices from October 8.

Addressing the customary post-policy press meet here, Das said 87 per cent of the notes which have been returned have been deposited into bank accounts, while the rest have been exchanged over the counter.

An Indian-origin couple and their two children were found dead in their home in the US state of New Jersey and police are investigating the matter as a homicide.

Tej Pratap Singh, 43, and Sonal Parihar, 42, were found dead alongside their 10-year-old son and 6-year-old in their Plainsboro home sometime after 4:30 pm on Wednesday, the Plainsboro Police Department said.
