Australian PM apologises to victims of child sex abuse, says 'we failed them'

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Monday issued an emotional national apology to thousands of survivors and victims of institutional child sex abuse for failing to protect them from "evil dark" crimes committed over decades and said he was angry at those who have abused the "shield of faith and religion" to hide their misdeeds.


Saudi king, crown prince call slain writer Khashoggi's son

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman called the son of Jamal Khashoggi, the kingdom announced early Monday, to express condolences for the death of the journalist killed at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul by officials that allegedly included a member of the royal's entourage.



Madikeri: Hunter shot dead

A 31-year-old youth, who had gone for hunting, has been shot dead at Yemmetalu near here on last night.

The dead has been identified as Yemmetalu resident Ranjit. The previous night, he had gone for hunting. It has been suspected that one Dinesh, a resident of the same village, may have mistaken him for a deer and shot at him. Following which, Ranjit succumbed to injuries on the spot.

Diesel costlier than petrol at Rs 80.69 in Odisha

For the first time in the country, diesel is being sold in Odisha at a price higher than that of petrol. On Sunday, diesel was being sold at Rs 80.78 per litre while petrol was being dispensed at Rs 80.65 per litre in the state capital. The price of diesel surpassed that of petrol for the first time here on Saturday when the former was sold at Rs 80.97/litre and the latter at Rs 80.90/litre. Prices of both the fuels have gone down relatively in the last five days.
