Delhi HC seeks NIA response on businessman's plea in terror funding case

The Delhi High Court on Friday asked the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to respond to Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Ahmad Shah Watali's plea challenging the rejection of his bail plea by a trial court in a terror funding case.


Gambling : Seven arrested

The local police arrested seven persons at Marjala on Friday on charges of involving in gambling. The police recovered cash, vehicles and valuables worth Rs 2.31 lakh from the accused.

Jharkhand HC extends Lalu's provisional bail till Aug 20

The Jharkhand High Court on Friday extended the provisional bail of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Yadav till August 20.

According to a lawyer, the provisional bail period was ending on August 17 but Lalu Yadav's lawyers moved the High Court seeking a further three-month extension. The next hearing will take place on August 17.

Rajasthan to change names of 4 more villages

The Rajasthan government will change the names of four more villages after three Hindu-dominated villages were earlier renamed, officials said on Friday.

Informed sources said the state government has proposed to change the names of 27 villages in the state, however the Centre has permitted the change of only seven names as of now.

People experience repeated tremors, get panic at Koppa

People experienced the light tremors for some time in some places at Kogre village in Koppa taluk on Friday. At 10 am, some of the places were shakes with a loud sound in the village. Villagers said the because of the intensity of the earthquake, utensils in the houses were fell down and they were shocked. They said they have experienced the same situation on Thursday and around two months back. Because of this repeated tremors, people got panic, they said.

The Supreme Court was on Friday informed by the Centre that the convicts of the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case cannot be released, holding that setting them free will set a "dangerous precedent".
