Youth abducted by militants in J&K dies

A youth abducted by militants from Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district succumbed to torture injuries on Thursday while the other civilian was released alive, police said.

Terrorists had on Wednesday abducted two youths, identified as Mehraj Ahmad of Kulgam and Arif Ahmad of Khudwani, a police officer said.


Harivansh Singh new Deputy Chairperson of RS

Janata Dal-United's Harivansh Narayan Singh was elected the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson on Thursday. The National Democratic Alliance candidate got 125 votes as against 105 of Opposition candidate B.K. Hariprasad.

Owing to severe decline in monthly page visits, from 8.5 billion to 4.7 billion in the last two years, Facebook is set to cede its long-held second position among the top websites in the US to YouTube, according to a new study.

Although Facebook's app traffic has grown, it is not enough to make up for that loss, CNBC reported on Wednesday citing the study by market research firm SimilarWeb.

Pak Actress-Singer Reshma Shot Dead

In yet another incident of violence against women artistes in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, actress and singer Reshma was recently shot dead allegedly by her husband in Nowshera Kalan area.

According to a report by Geo TV, Reshma, who was the suspect's fourth wife, used to live with her brother at the city's Hakimabad area.

Iran rejects talks with US over 'erratic policies'

Iran has again ruled out any negotiation with the US, accusing it of pursuing "erratic policies" in dealing with the Islamic republic.

"The Americans have never acted with sincerity, and President Donald Trump's move and remarks to invite Iran for talks were merely a propaganda stunt," the state TV quoted Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif as saying on Wednesday after the cabinet meeting, Xinhua reported.

Key Indian equity market indices open in green

Taking a cue from global markets, the key Indian equity market indices on Thursday opened higher.

The Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the BSE, which had closed at 37,887.56 points on Wednesday, opened higher at 37,994.51 points. Minutes into trading, it was quoting at 38,005.35 points, up by 117.79 points, or 0.31 per cent.

Karunanidhi : End of an era

The patriarch of Tamil identity and politics since the last eight decades, DMK president Muthuvel Karunanidhi has breathed his last at the age of 94. His persona wasn’t limited to politics alone. He was an MLC for nearly seven and half decades, and a Chief Minister for five terms and an active script writer for Tamil cinema for 50 years. If anything, Karunanidhi led a very colourful life that will remain unparalleled for many generations to come. He would have turned a centenarian in the next five years time. In his death, the last link to Dravida movement is lost forever.
