Tokyo 2020 committee officially unveils Olympic mascots

The Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee officially presented its Olympic mascots Miraitowa and Someity at a massive event here on Sunday.

The ceremony, which was attended by Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike and organising committee president Yoshiro Mori, was held at a popular mall where hundreds of children and spectators had gathered, reports Efe.

South Africa taxi shooting kills 11

 South African police said on Sunday that they are investigating a deadly shooting at a taxi which led to 11 deaths.

South Africa Police Service said that on Saturday night, a taxi from Gauteng province transporting people who attended a funeral came under fire between Colenso and Weenen. Unknown suspects jumped into the road from the bushes and opened fire, it said.

Mangaluru : Attempt to sell ganja, one held

Mangaluru CCB police arrested a person here on Sunday on charges of bringing ganja illegally from Kerala and trying to sell it here. The arrested is identified as Keshav Sanil of 5th block of Krishnapura.

Kerala stands as the best governed state in the country and Karnataka is in the fourth position, said the Public Affairs Index 2018 released by the think tank Public Affairs Centre (PAC) here.

"Kerala has topped the Public Affairs Index (PAI) for 2018 as the best governed state for the third consecutive year since 2016 among large states," said Bengaluru-based PAC at an event in the city on Saturday evening to release its third annual PAI.

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi goes to Rwanda for the first-ever Prime Minister-level visit on Monday, he will have an interesting gift for his hosts — 200 cows, all sourced locally in the small, land-locked east African country. Modi will travel to Rweru model village in Rwanda’s eastern province and gift the cows as India’s contribution to Rwandan President Paul Kagame’s flagship “Girinka” programme. Officials said the cattle will be sourced locally since they are adapted to the natural surroundings of the region.

More Than 19,000 Children Died In Maharashtra In 12 Months: Health Minister

As many as 19,799 children died in Maharashtra between April 2017 and March 2018 due to various reasons, including poor weight and respiratory illnesses, Health Minister Deepak Sawant has said.

The main reasons of death during the period were poor weight at the time of birth, premature delivery, contagious diseases, congenital respiratory illnesses and deformities, besides others, he said in a written reply during the recently concluded Monsoon Session of the Legislative Council in Nagpur.
