Industrialist Mukesh Ambani gets death threat via email with demand for Rs 20 crore; case filed
Mumbai (PTI): Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani has received an email threatening to shoot him dead if he failed to pay Rs 20 crore, a Mumbai police official said on Saturday.
The industrialist received the death threat email on Friday, and based on a complaint lodged by his security in-charge, a first information report (FIR) was registered against an unidentified person at the Gamdevi police station, he said.
"The email that Ambani received said that he will be shot if he failed to pay Rs 20 crore," he said.
The case was filed under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 387 (putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt in order to commit extortion) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation), he said, adding that a massive manhunt has been launched to nab the person who sent the mail.
Last year, the Mumbai police had arrested a man from Bihar's Darbhanga for making death threat calls to Mukesh Ambani and his family members. The accused had also threatened to blow up the Sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai.

'Must stop': SC censures lawyers for filing 'bulky' appeals
New Delhi (PTI): The Supreme Court on Thursday deprecated lawyers for filing "bulky" appeals which run into a number of pages and annexing unnecessary documents.
A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan said, "What is this tendency? In synopsis, case law is cited, grounds are there in synopsis. And there is a very bulky compilation. Every matter we see now in Supreme Court, in first part of synopsis people cite quotations then the grounds of appeal are reproduced in synopsis. This must stop."
The bench went on, "What kind of bulky compilation is being thrown at us? The bulk of the compilation depends upon the monetary capacity of the litigant and capacity to engage senior advocate. This is happening everyday. We have forgotten the basic rule that pleadings should not contain law."
The top court expressed "shock" on finding in such compilations synopses of cases, grounds of challenge aside from case laws.
"We deprecate this tendency. A copy of this order shall we forwarded to the Supreme Court advocates on-record association," it added.
