Despite having all deserving qualities to be the PM of this country through the massive mandate UPA had garnered, Sonia Gandhi had to step back owing to the conspiracy of Sangh Parivar and other opposition parties.
Though she has contributed more to this nation than anyone else, Sonia Gandhi is yet to be accepted as an 'Indian’.
This crisis of identity has transferred from mother to son now. Looks like Rahul Gandhi strongly believes it is inevitable for him to be a brahmin to become the PM of this country and he has even been declaring his gotra and nakshatra etc out in the open stressing on his brahmin identity.
He is even seeking help of brahmin pontiffs too to press the point further.
On the other hand, Sangh Parivar and BJP are going great lengths to prove Rahul is not a brahmin.
Now the moot question is, whether it is inevitable for Rahul to be a brahmin to even qualify to be the PM of India?
Why is he making all these efforts to prove his brahminical qualities? To understand the effect of how casteism is still ruling the mindsets of this nation, Rahul's need to project himself as a brahmin goes a long way in driving the point home.
And with this, Rahul has fallen in the trap laid by Sangh Parivar and other casteist elements.
By trying to prove himself as a brahmin, Rahul seems to have accepted the supremacy of brahmanism and its power to wield political equations.
Rahul Gandhi could have given a powerful repartee to those who sought to know his gotra. He could have extended the context of discussion to bring the issue of caste to the forefront by asking those who pose blocks in allowing a leader like him to enter the temples could be doing worse to the members of lower castes and underprivileged communities.
He could have mounted constructive criticism about the brahmanical hierarchy that exists within BJP and Sangh Parivar. Instead, Rahul is busy proving to people that he is a brahmin too.
This way Rahul has fallen prey to the lies Sangh Parivar has planted among people all this while. How does him being a brahmin increase his eligibility and deserving characters to be the PM of this country?
The pride of the name Nehru is even higher with the secular credentials associated with it, and not because he was a brahmin by caste and birth. Whatever identity that was his personal one, Nehru surpassed it successfully to be a thorough secular.
Owing to his efforts of building the nation on those very secular values, the country has held its head high among all other nations in the world.
Nehru's family involved all caste identifies within its precincts. Indira Gandhi was denied entry into the temple owing to the fact that she married a Parsi.
But Indians never abandoned Indira Gandhi for that reason. She never set out to prove herself as a hindu or brahmin or some such identity. In some ways, Nehru family represents the country at various levels.
If one asks which community does Rahul belong to, or his faith or that of he is a Muslim; he indeed is everything. He is also a Muslim. He could be a Parsi. All contradictions and diversities are present in Nehru family. Losing out on all these beautiful aspects, Rahul is out to prove himself a brahmin.
This will be a loss to him than a gain. Some elements want to eradicate the diversity of Nehru family and associate mono identity with them that they are brahmins. And those elements have now tasted partial success too.
Being the daughter in law of India, Sonia Gandhi has managed her duties and obligations with utmost integrity. She even lost her husband for the sake of nation. She held the reins of Congress at a time when it was going into splinters.
She tried her best to retain secular credentials within the Congress. Despite being aware of the brahminism that was present in Congress, she successfully surpassed all of them to turn into a true leader. Having sensed Italian roots working against her, she made made a wise decision of not becoming the PM herself but ensuring a statesman and economical expert like Manmohan Singh sat in the chair of PM.
She stood solidly in support of Singh and ensured the govt functioned without any hiccups. Food security bill, employment bill, right to information act all those significant milestones of bills were passed under her watchful guidance.
Yet, Sangh Parivar has been harping on her foreign roots every now and then for its own benefit. An Rahul Gandhi severe ties with his mother Sonia Gandhi to be a brahmin on identity? Rahul Gandhi's massive advantage is that he is the son of Sonia and Rajiv Gandhi who were able leaders, and grandson of Indira Gandhi, the boldest PM this country saw, and great grandson of Nehru the visionary and secular PM of this nation. The greatest gift he has got is the one that brings him the best of various communities that are part of his family identity. It would be tragic if Rahul restricts himself to one small sub caste or identity of some part of brahmin community for himself. He must understand that the large expanse of this nation itself reflects the identity of his family and he needs to reach people with this as his context and perspective.

Indore (PTI): The Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court on Tuesday set up a commission of inquiry comprising a former HC judge to probe the issue of water contamination in city's Bhagirathpura, saying the matter requires probe by an independent, credible authority and "urgent judicial scrutiny".
It also directed the commission to submit an interim report after four weeks from the date of commencement of proceedings.
A division bench of Justices Vijay Kumar Shukla and Alok Awasthi constituted the commission while hearing several public interest litigations (PILs) filed simultaneously regarding the deaths of several people in Bhagirathpura due to the consumption of contaminated water.
The HC reserved the order after hearing all the parties during the day, and released it late at night.
The state government on Tuesday told the HC that the deaths of 16 people in Indore's Bhagirathpura area was possibly linked to a month-long outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea caused by contaminated drinking water.
The government presented an audit report of 23 deaths from the current gastroenteritis epidemic in Bhagirathpura before the bench, suggesting that 16 of these fatalities may have been linked to the outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea caused by contaminated drinking water.
The report, prepared by a committee of five experts from the city's Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, stated that the deaths of four people in Bhagirathpura were unrelated to the outbreak, while no conclusion could be reached regarding the cause of death of three other people in the area.
During the hearing, the high court sought to know from the state government the scientific basis behind its report.
The division bench also expressed surprise at the state government's use of the term "verbal autopsy" in relation to the report, sarcastically stating that it had heard the term for the first time.
The HC expressed concern over the Bhagirathpura case, stating that the situation was "alarming," and noted that cases of people falling ill due to contaminated drinking water have also been reported in Mhow, near Indore.
In its order, the HC said the serious issue concerning contamination of the drinking water supply in Bhagirathpura area allegedly resulted in widespread health hazards to residents, including children and elderly persons.
According to the petitioners and media reports, death toll is about 30 till today, but the report depicts only 16 without any basis or record, it said.
It is averred that sewage mixing, leakage in the pipeline, and failure of civic authorities to maintain potable water standards have led to the outbreak of water-borne diseases. Photographs, medical reports, and complaints submitted to the authorities prima facie indicate a matter requiring urgent judicial scrutiny, the HC said.
"Considering the gravity of the allegation and affecting the right to life under Article 21 of the Constitution of India and the need for an independent fact-finding exercise, the Court is of the opinion that the matter requires investigation by an independent, credible authority," it said.
"Accordingly, we appoint Justice Sushil Kumar Gupta, former judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, a one-man commission of inquiry into the issues relating to water contamination in Bhagirathpura, Indore, and its impact on other areas of the city," the HC added.
As per the order, the commission shall inquire into and submit a report on the cause of contamination -- whether the drinking water supplied to Bhagirathpura was contaminated; and the source and nature of contamination (sewage ingress, industrial discharge, pipeline damage etc).
The panel will also probe the number of actual deaths of affected residents on account of contaminated water; find out the nature of disease reported and adequacy of medical response and preventive measures; suggest immediate steps required to ensure safe drinking water as well as long-term infrastructural and monitoring reforms.
It will also identify and fix responsibility upon the officers and officials found prima facie responsible for the Bhagirathpura water contamination incident, and suggest guidelines for compensation to affected residents, particularly vulnerable sections.
The commission shall have powers of a civil court for the purpose of summoning officials and witnesses; calling up records from the government department, hospitals, laboratories and civic bodies; ordering water quality testing through accredited laboratories; conducting spot inspections.
All state authorities involving district administration, Indore Municipal Corporation, public health engineering department and Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board shall extend full co-operation and provide records as sought by the commission, it said.
The state government shall provide office space, staff, and logistical support to the commission, it said.
During the hearing in the day, the state government also presented a status report to the court in this matter.
According to reports, a total of 454 patients were admitted to local hospitals during the vomiting and diarrhea outbreak, of whom 441 have been discharged after treatment, and 11 are currently hospitalised.
According to officials, due to a leak in the municipal drinking water pipeline in Bhagirathpura, sewage from a toilet was also mixed in the water.
