Mumbai: Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui has landed into a controversy after a complaint was filed against him for allegedly insulting religious sentiments on his JioHotstar show Hafta Vasooli.

The complaint was filed by Advocate Amita Sachdeva, who has demanded the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under several provisions of the law, including Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 196, 299, and 353, as well as the IT Act.

The complaint accuses the show of offending multiple religions, undermining cultural values, and negatively influencing young minds and society at large. “If no action is taken, I will approach the Court to ensure justice prevails,” Sachdeva added.

The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti also weighed in on the controversy, calling for an immediate ban on the show. In a post shared on X, the organisation criticised Faruqui’s use of "foul language" and claimed it was "unacceptable for public viewing," further stating that it "sinks moral values."

Hafta Vasooli, a satirical newsroom comedy show, premiered on February 14 and continues to air. As of now, Munawar Faruqui has not publicly responded to the allegations.

Kochi (PTI): Malayalam actor Rajesh Keshav is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after suffering a cardiac arrest on August 24, hospital sources said on Wednesday.

The 47-year-old actor, known for notable roles in various films and TV shows, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday night after collapsing at a city hotel.

He was first taken to the Emergency Department and successfully revived through immediate resuscitation, the hospital said in a statement.

Keshav was then shifted to the Cath Lab, where an emergency angioplasty was performed, it said, adding that he had suffered a prolonged cardiac arrest, which resulted in a moderate hypoxic injury.

The Neuro Wing is closely monitoring his neurological recovery, and encouraging signs of progress are being observed, they explained.

"At present, he remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) under advanced life support," the statement said.

His condition is serious but showing gradual improvement, with a multidisciplinary team of doctors actively involved in his treatment, it added.
