Social Forum Volunteers help burial of Tamil Nadu based expat who died in Qatar
Doha: Selvam aged 46 son of Subramanian hailing from Panakulam Village, Alangudi, Pudukkottai District in Tamilnadu province who worked as a technician, died in Qatar on April 24.
Due to challenging situation prevailing in both India and Qatar for body repatriation services, especially in Covid-19 atmosphere, Family is unable to progress further for the past 2 months. At this stage, Family of the deceased met Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Pudukkottai office bearers and requested to intervene and help out, and also agreed to bury the body in Qatar itself.
Hence, SDPI delegates communicated with well-known Indian Expatriate welfare Organization - Qatar Indian Social Forum (QISF). QISF General Secretary Basheer Ahamed, Secretary Abdul Latheef Madikeri, Khalid Mohsin, Baava Mohiyuddin, Khalid, Rizwan and team collected the required documents from the family of the deceased and managed to clear all the necessary formalities from the police department, Health Department, Embassy of India and Hamad Medical Corporation within a short period of time and arranged for a peaceful burial of Mr. Selvam in Dukhan cemetery.
Family of deceased conveyed their gratitude to SDPI and Social Forum leaders for the great humanitarian support rendered within a short span of time during this difficult situation.

Man held with Rs 6.23 lakh drugs in Palghar
Palghar (PTI): Police have arrested a man after seizing drugs valued at Rs 6.23 lakh from his possession in Maharashtra's Palghar district, officials said on Sunday.
Based on intelligence inputs, the police conducted a raid at Dhaniv Bagh in the Nalasopara area on December 4 and apprehended the man.
During a search, they recovered brown sugar valued at Rs 6 lakh and Nitrazepam (a psychotropic drug) tablets costing Rs 23,628 from his possession, a police release said.
The accused, identified as Salim Bagion alias Sardar Chacha (40), was arrested and booked under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the release said.
The accused is a habitual offender. He has 12 previous cases registered against him, including three under the NDPS Act, the police said.
