Several Indian job-seekers stranded in the UAE due to travel restrictions amid the coronavirus outbreak are running out of money and desperately want to return home, according to a media report.

Indian Overseas Congress -Chaiman Dr.Sam Pitroda, held video conference with senior IOC officials across Middle Eastern countries on Tuesday, 14th April 2020, to review the impact of COVID-19 Pandemic among Indians residing in the region. Almost all speakers appreciated the efforts initiated and implemented by respective governments to contain spread of the deadly virus as well as measures taken towards welfare of the people affected by the lockdown.

 Continued lock down across the country and suspension of all international flights to prevent spread of COVID – 19, has sparked problems and inconveniences to the lives of Indian Expatriates irrespective of labors and entrepreneurs in Saudi Arabia. Different stories of expatriate ordeals have surfaced in the media from the kingdom. Here are some stories we could hear.

Saudi Arabia based leading company, Expertise Contracting Co. which mainly has workforce that belongs to Karnataka has sought permission from PM Narendra Modi to land chartered flights at Bengaluru/Mangaluru International Airports. The company said it will carry Indian expatriates working for the company who are stranded in Saudi Arabia on chartered flights. It added that at least 500 of its workmen are stranded in the Kingdom due to the lockdown and suspension of flights between the two countries amidst growing number of cases of Corona Virus.

The UAE plans to impose "strict restrictions" on countries reluctant to take back their nationals working in the Gulf country in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak and restructure its cooperation and labour relations with them, a state-run media report said on Sunday.

After UAE took punitive action against two Indians for blaming Muslims for coronavirus, another Gulf country Kuwait has now cracked the whip on two Indians, who had shared similar communal hatred posts on social media. One such Indian was Kundan Kumar from Pupri in Bihar, who was working at Burger King in Kuwait.

An Indian expat in the UAE is facing police action for allegedly insulting Islam on social media in response to a Facebook post on the coronavirus, according to a media report.
