New Delhi: The vision of 15 youngsters, aged 10-20 years, were affected due to watching the December 26 solar eclipse with naked eyes, said Kamlesh Khilnani, head of the ophthalmology department at SMS Hospital, in Jaipur.
They were being treated at the hospital OPD, their normal vision was unlikely to be restored, he added.
"Watching solar eclipse with naked eyes can result in solar retinitis. 15 such cases have been reported at the hospital. Our examination has found that a part of their retina had been burnt," he said.
He said such illness is treated by giving supportive treatment and it takes 3-6 weeks for the patient to recover partially.

Mangaluru: The Panambur ACP team and personnel from Mulki Police Station jointly arrested a 21-year-old student for allegedly attempting to sell ganja and seized 1.042 kg of the narcotic substance, valued at around Rs 35 lakh, Deccan Herald reported.
Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH identified the accused as Suhana, a native of Hulidevarabana in Sagar taluk of Shivamogga district. She is a final-year BCA student at a college in Kundapur.
The arrest was made during an operation conducted on Mulki Railway Station Road under the limits of Mulki Police Station.
During the operation, police personnel seized around 1 kg and 42 grams of ganja, a mobile phone allegedly used for the crime, and other materials connected to the case.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused allegedly sourced the substance from Chennai and brought it to Mangaluru with the intention of selling the narcotic substance for profit.
A case has been registered at Mulki Police Station under Sections 8(c) (Drug possession) and 22(c) (Psychotropic trafficking) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police said the accused is also facing two other narcotics-related cases, one at Kavoor Police Station and another registered by Bengaluru International Airport Customs.
