Kochi, Aug 3: The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), led by superstar Mohanlal, on Friday filed a petition in the Kerala High Court pleading that a female judge should hear the actress kidnap case.

The petition, which was filed by two AMMA office bearers, Honey Rose and Rachana Narayanankutty, will be heard next week.

The move comes after the recently-formed Womens Collective in Cinema (WCC) and several others severely criticised AMMA for the way the association has been handling the case.

Trouble started soon after Mohanlal took over as AMMA President last month and took back Dileep, one of the main accused in the case, into the Association.

Four leading actresses, including the victim, quit AMMA in protest whereas another 14 announced their decision to quit citing lack of fairness.

Kalaburagi: A 29-year-old woman, Jyothi, who was a resident of the Sangameshwara Colony in the city, was allegedly murdered and her body set on fire, in an incident reported from Itaga village of Kalaburagi taluk.

Jyothi, who got married 10 years ago, had left her husband five years ago, returned to her parents’ house and was living there since then. Jyothi had gone out of home on Thursday morning; in the afternoon, however, her body was found in a charred state.

Farhatabad Police officers have registered a case and are investigating. They have suspected the deceased woman to have been murdered and a family feud to be the reason for the possible murder.
