Ahmednagar: The Military Intelligence (MI) of the Indian Army busted a new case of fake recruitment, reported from Ahmednagar, with one person being arrested under charge of duping several people by promising them jobs in the Army like cooks and defence civilians and collecting a total of Rs 8.3 lakh.
The MI, on receiving information of the acts of fake recruitment going on, coordinated with the Camp Police Ahmednagar and arrested Vijay Bisht at the local market, The Hindu reports. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Bisht, who confessed during the interrogation that he began taking money in 2023 claiming to help in recruitment for jobs like cooks and defence civilians in the Army, an official has said, adding that additional details related to scam, including how many people were involved in it would be learned through further investigation.
Bisht and his acquaintances are known to have duped a minimum of 10 people, but the number is also expected to go up as investigation progresses.
A source close to the Indian Army has called it a classic modus operandi to offer people positions in the Army like cooks, gardeners and drivers to fleece money from them. At least 25 cases have been registered following instances of people being duped with offers of jobs in the Army, the source pointed out, adding that people have also been targeted on several occasions at recruitment rallies or at coaching institutes.
The Army uses advertisements and campaigns to state that the only way to join the force is a recruitment rally. Earlier, physical fitness was first checked and then a written test. The process has been reversed in the last few years to handle the large turnout at rallies that create law and order situations on many instances. A written examination is first conducted, and those who pass it are called for a physical fitness test.
