Bihar: Woman poisons her 4 children, attempts suicide; 3 daughters die
Aurangabad (Bihar), May 14 (PTI): A 40-year-old woman in Bihar's Aurangabad district on Wednesday allegedly poisoned her four children, before attempting suicide, leading to the death of her three daughters, officials said.
The woman and her six-year-old son are in a critical condition.
The deceased have been identified as Suryamani Kumari (five), Radha Kumari (three) and Shivani Kumari (one).
The woman, identified as Sonia Devi, and her son Ritesh Kumar (six) are battling for their lives at a government hospital in Aurangabad.
The incident took place at Rafiganj railway station in Aurangabad.
Speaking to reporters, RPF inspector Ram Sumer said, "In the morning, we received information that a woman and her children were lying unconscious at the Rafiganj railway station."
"Railway police, along with local police and officials reached the spot, and found the woman and her four children in a critical condition. They were taken to the nearest hospital, where three of the children were declared dead. The woman and her six-year-old son were shifted to Sadar hospital for better treatment and their condition is stated to be critical," he added.
Rafiganj police station SHO Shambhu Kumar said some dispute between the woman and her husband was suspected to be the reason behind her taking the extreme step.
Her family members claimed she consumed some poisonous substance and also gave it to her children, the officer said, adding that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and further investigation is underway.
"The exact cause of the deaths can only be known after the post-mortem examination. Statements of the victims' family members are also being recorded," the SHO added.

Speaker UT Khader attends local cricket tournament during Bhatkal visit
Bhatkal: Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly U. T. Khader visited Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district on Saturday and attended a local cricket match being played as part of a tournament organised by the Cosmos Sports Centre of Bhatkal.
After attending a programme at Anjuman Hami-E-Muslimeen, Khader proceeded to the Bhatkal Taluka Stadium, where the tournament is underway. He was accompanied by office-bearers of the Cosmos Sports Centre and several local community leaders.
Those present during the visit included President of Majlis-e-Islah Wa Tanzeem and former JD(S) leader Inayathullah Shabandri, Vice President of Tanzeem Atiqur Rahman Muniri, General Secretary Abdul Raqeeb MJ, President of Cosmos Sports Centre Ismail Anjum, Managing Director of Mohtisham Complexes S. M. Arshad, former president of the Bhatkal Muslim Youth Federation Imtiyaz Udyawar, among others.
Addressing players and organisers, Khader extended his best wishes to the participating teams and urged the players to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship. He said such tournaments help promote unity and brotherhood among the youth.
The cricket tournament began on November 21 and will conclude with the final match on December 21. It is being organised as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Cosmos Sports Centre.
Cosmos Sports Centre is one of the member clubs of the Bhatkal Muslim Youth Federation and is known for its active role in promoting sports in the town. Apart from sporting activities, the centre is also involved in various social and community initiatives, including efforts to promote education among students.
