Wayanad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Navya Haridas has filed a petition in the Kerala High Court, contesting Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's victory in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll held on November 13.
Haridas, who was also a candidate in the bypoll, secured the third position behind the Communist Party of India’s Sathyan Mokeri and lost to Gandhi by a margin of 5,12,399 votes.
In her petition, Haridas alleged that Gandhi suppressed crucial information regarding her and her family's assets while submitting her nomination papers. She further accused Gandhi of misleading voters, withholding key details, and influencing their decision unfairly.
The petition also claims that Gandhi engaged in corrupt practices and exercised undue influence on voters, violating provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Haridas argued that Gandhi’s nomination papers were not in compliance with the election laws and conduct rules.
Citing these grounds, Haridas has requested the High Court to annul Gandhi’s election. Advocate Hari Kumar G Nair is representing Haridas in the case.
