Hyderabad: Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi has sparked outrage after making a controversial remark at a public event in which he compared his home to a 'ladies hostel' and expressed his desire for a male heir.

During the event, Chiranjeevi, who was the chief guest, expressed his wish for a grandson to carry forward the family legacy. His remarks, however, took a sexist and derogatory turn when shared his desire for his son, actor Ram Charan, and his wife, Upasana Kamineni, to have a baby boy. Chiranjeevi admitted being “scared” that their second child might also be a girl and emphasised his hope for a grandson.

“When I’m at home, it doesn’t feel like I’m surrounded by my granddaughters; it feels like I’m a ladies’ hostel warden, surrounded by ladies all around. I keep wishing and telling Charan, at least this time, have a boy so that our legacy continues, but his daughter is the apple of his eye. I’m scared that he might again have a girl,” Chiranjeevi said.

His comments quickly went viral, sparking outrage among social media users. One user on X wrote, “Chiranjeevi is scared his son Ram Charan might have another daughter. In 2025, the obsession with a male heir continues. Disappointing, but not surprising.”

Another comment read, “Chiranjeevi is afraid Ram Charan will have another daughter and the legacy of the family will not be carried forward. The rot runs so deep, it is not even funny."

Ram Charan and Upasana Kamineni welcomed their daughter, Klin Kaara Konidela, in 2023. Apart from Ram, Chiranjeevi has two daughters, Sreeja Konidela and Sushmita Konidela, both of whom are mothers to daughters

Hyderabad (PTI): Soon after taking over as Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B Sumathi went undercover and took up a field visit after midnight on May 1 to assess law and order, including women's safety.

Sumathi assumed charge as the Malkajgiri Police Commissioner on May 1.

On the same night, the senior IPS officer, in plainclothes, moved through the streets of Dilsukhnagar here, standing alone for some time to get a first-hand knowledge of law and order situation, official sources said on Wednesday.

"It was a general checking and she later interacted with police officials," they said.

The sources said about 30-40 individuals who approached her were counselled regarding their behaviour towards women in public places.

Sumathi, who earlier headed the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB), of the Telangana Police, oversaw the long drawn process of the Maoists joining the mainstream.
