Congress alleges Adani Group given 1,050 acres land in Bihar at Rs 1 per year
Patna: The Congress on Monday accused Adani Power Limited of receiving undue benefits from the Centre and the Bihar government for setting up a thermal power plant in Bhagalpur district.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Congress media and publicity department chairman Pawan Khera alleged that 1,050 acres of land and around 10 lakh trees at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur have been handed over to the Gautam Adani-led company for 33 years at a nominal rate of Rs 1 per year.
Khera claimed that farmers in the district were coerced and threatened to part with their land for the 2,400 MW thermal power project, whose foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. He further alleged that the land included mango, litchi, and teak plantations, all transferred to Adani Power Limited under the same lease.
The Congress leader said the project was originally announced in the Union Budget as a government initiative, but was later handed over to Adani. He also charged that the power generated would be sold to Bihar consumers at Rs 6.075 per unit, compared to Rs 3–5 per unit in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, calling it “double exploitation of the people of Bihar.”
There was no immediate response from the Centre, the Bihar government, or the Adani Group regarding the allegations.

Renowned Indian photographer Raghu Rai passes away at 83
New Delhi (PTI): Raghu Rai, one of India's best known photographers whose lens captured India in its many shades, died at a private hospital here in the early hours of Sunday. He was 83.
“Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer two years ago but he was cured. Then it spread to the stomach, that too was cured. Recently the cancer spread to his brain and then there were age related issues too,” Nitin Rai, photographer and Rai’s son, told PTI.
He is survived by wife Gurmeet, son Nitin and daughters Lagan, Avani and Purvai.
The last rites will be performed at Lodhi Crematorium at 4pm on Sunday.
