Dehradun: The Dehradun police have summoned P-Value Analytics, the private firm behind the National Annual Report on Women’s Safety (NARI 2025), after its survey ranked the city among the top 10 unsafe for women.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajai Singh directed the company’s managing director and the team responsible for data collection and analysis to appear within a week with all documents related to the survey. He warned that if the firm fails to provide satisfactory answers or if the report is found to be based on baseless facts, strict legal action will follow.
The Uttarakhand government had earlier dismissed the report, calling it “not based on facts.” Trade associations and educational institutions in Dehradun also lodged complaints demanding action against the report.
The survey, released on August 28 in the presence of National Commission for Women chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, drew criticism after P-Value representative Mayank Dhayya claimed it was conducted as part of academic research for university students. He explained that one team handled survey collection while another analyzed the data. Police, however, found his responses unsatisfactory.
According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2022 data, Dehradun reported no rape-murder cases but recorded 8 dowry deaths, 13 cases of abetment to suicide, 184 rapes, and a total of 1,205 crimes against women—27% of the state’s 4,337 cases. In 2021, the city had 10 dowry deaths, 132 cases of cruelty by husbands or relatives, 113 rapes, and 756 total crimes against women, accounting for 22% of the state’s 3,431 cases.
The NARI 2025 report also listed Delhi among the least safe cities for women, with the national capital reporting 14,277 crimes against women.

Faridabad (PTI): A woman allegedly killed her 18-month-old child - her sixth daughter - by throwing her into a drain in Faridabad, claiming she committed the crime as she was unable to take care of her family due to poverty, according to police.
The incident occurred near Dheeraj Nagar on April 23 when the girl's body was found stuck in an iron mesh along a drain by two school children, the police said on Sunday, adding the body was retrieved and sent for a postmortem.
A Crime Branch team, which was probing the case, found CCTV footage showing the girl's mother carrying her in her arms in the area. She then returned alone. The police took the woman into custody, and during questioning, she confessed to throwing the girl into the drain, they said.
The infant died of drowning.
The accused was identified as Neelam, a native of Madhubani in Bihar. She lived in Faridabad with her husband Sanjay, who works in a private firm, the police said.
A senior investigating officer said that during interrogation, the woman said that the deceased was the youngest of her six daughters and that she was driven to commit the crime due to poverty.
"She revealed that her family's financial situation was extremely poor, and with six daughters, she was unable to raise them properly," the officer said.
Police spokesperson Yashpal said they are investigating the matter and the entire picture will be clear soon.
