New Delhi: Popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee refuted the recent 'fake allegations' against him by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal that she had been receiving rape and death threats after he posted a video on the alleged assault on her by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's personal assistant Bibhav Kumar, saying he was used to issues like fake allegations, daily death threats, insults and defamation campaigns against him.
While he cited no names in his post on his personal ‘X’ account on Monday, Rathee added, ‘The irony is that perpetrators are pretending to be victims. Everyone knows who is behind all this. They want to silence me. But that’s not gonna happen. If you silence 1 Dhruv Rathee, 1000 new ones will rise up. Jai Hind’.
Maliwal had also alleged that the AAP and its volunteers were undertaking a character assassination campaign against her and Rathee’s ‘one-sided video’ against her was worsening the situation for her. On her personal ‘X’ account she posted screenshots of the abusive messages she was sent and said, “After the leaders and volunteers of my party, i.e., AAP orchestrated a campaign of character assassination, victim shaming, and fanning of emotions against me, I have been getting rape and death threats. This got further exacerbated when YouTuber @Dhruv_Rathee posted a one-sided video against me.”
The MP said that, while the AAP was trying to intimidate her into withdrawing her complaint, Dhruv Rathee had ignored her calls and messages when she tried to contact him. “It is shameful that people like him, who claim to be independent journalists could act like other AAP spokespersons and victim shame me to the extent that I am now facing extreme abuses and threats,” Maliwal said.
