Kalyan: An elderly Muslim man traveling to Kalyan to visit his daughter was allegedly abused and brutally beaten up inside a train by several individuals. The incident has sparked outrage, with many calling for strict action against the perpetrators.

The victim, identified as Haji Ashraf Munyar from a village in Jalgaon District, was en route to Kalyan when he was assaulted near Igatpuri, allegedly on accusations of carrying beef.

Following the attack, rumors circulated suggesting that the elderly man had committed suicide.

However, these claims have been refuted by his family who confirmed that he is currently at his daughter's house in Kalyan. His son, Ashfaq, has filed a police complaint at the Igatpuri Railway Police station.

Can we expect a strict action against all these goons seen in both the videos,” he questioned in another post.

"There are rumours doing rounds that the elderly person committed suicide. This is not true. He is currently at his daughter's house in Kalyan. His son Ashfaq has filed a police complaint at Igatpuri Railway Police,” he wrote confirming that the elderly man had not committed suicide.

Thiruvananthapuram (PTI): Celebrations erupted across Kerala on Thursday after V D Satheesan was selected by the Congress High Command as the next Chief Minister of the state.

Satheesan was at the Contonment House in Thiruvananthapuram, the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition, when AICC leaders announced it in New Delhi.

Soon after the announcement, jubilant Satheesan supporters burst firecrackers and distributed sweets in several parts of the state.

Paravur in Ernakulam district, the Assembly constituency he has represented since 2001, witnessed large-scale celebrations.

Satheesan was widely seen as the frontrunner for the post, with UDF allies also backing his candidature during the selection process.

As the Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing Assembly, he led the UDF both inside and outside the House.

Apart from Satheesan, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala and Congress MP K C Venugopal were also considered for the post.
