New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra's parliamentary membership is in jeopardy as the parliamentary Ethics Committee investigating cash-for-query allegations against her has recommended her immediate termination, an NDTV report added.
The committee, in its exhaustive 500-page report accessed by NDTV, described Moitra's actions as "highly objectionable, unethical, heinous, and criminal," demanding severe punishment.
Additionally, the committee has called for a comprehensive legal, institutional, and time-bound investigation into the matter by the Central Government. The report specifically emphasizes the necessity of probing the money trail involving cash transactions between Mahua Moitra and businessman Darshan Hiranandani, hinting at a potential 'quid pro quo' arrangement.
"The money trail of cash transactions between SMT Mahua Moitra and Shri Darshan Hiranandani as part of a 'quid pro quo' should be investigated by the Government of India in a legal, institutional, and time-bound manner," the report stated.
The detailed report, slated to be submitted to the Lok Sabha Speaker during the upcoming winter session of parliament, will be followed by appropriate actions after thorough discussions.
Earlier today, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who initially brought the matter to the attention of the Lok Sabha Speaker, shared on X, formerly Twitter, that the anti-corruption body Lokpal has directed a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into corruption allegations against Mahua Moitra.
"On the basis of my complaint, Lokpal has ordered a CBI probe into Mahua Moitra's corruption that compromises national security," read a rough translation of Mr. Dubey's post.
The BJP MP had previously alleged that Moitra had accepted cash from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to pose questions in parliament on his behalf, with the intention to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi and business rival Adani Group.
