If Ram and Sardar Patel statue okay, then why not mine? Mayawati asks in SC
New Delhi| Former UP Chief Minister and BSP chief Mayawati pointed out to Sardar Patel statue in her defence in Supreme Court. She was replying to a petition filed by lawyer Ravikant for spending crores of rupees on the construction of her idols. Mayawati in her affidavit said that her statues and monuments in Lucknow and Noida are a symbol of public sentiment. “Given my work and sacrifice for the deprived and oppressed community during my tenure as Chief Ministers and being a Dalit woman leader, the statues are a symbol of respect and public sentiment towards me,” said Mayawati.
Mayawati has said that she could not go against the wishes of the assembly to install statues of Kanshiram. To justify her decision of putting up statues, Mayawati invoked the statue of Sardar Patel. She said that sculptures made of government expenditure in other parts of the country are not being questioned. She also said that the PIL is politically motivated to target her idols. The BSP chief pointed at Sardar Patel’s Statue of Unity in Gujarat and the announcement of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to make the biggest idol of Lord Rama in Ayodhya.
Calling the allegation of installing statues of her party symbol Elephants baseless, she said that it is not only her party symbol. Mayawati said, “In Indian and world culture, elephants have been recognized as a symbol of artistry and welcome.” She cited that the elephant statues are also installed in Rashtrapati Bhavan and other places.
During her stint as the Chief Minister of Uttar Prades, had built Dalit monuments in Lucknow and Noida. In the petition, lawyer Ravi Kant demanded the recovery of these sculptures from the government expenditure of Mayawati and BSP.

BJP leads in 5 of 7 bypoll seats as counting continues; Congress leads in Karnataka’s Bagalkot
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in five out of the seven seats where counting of votes for the by-elections is currently underway, according to early trends.
In Maharashtra’s Baramati, Sunetra Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party is in the lead.
In Karnataka’s Bagalkot constituency, Congress candidate Umesh Meti is ahead.
The counting process is ongoing, and final results are yet to be declared.
