India needs 2,840 new aircraft, 41,000 pilots in next 20 years: Airbus forecast
Hyderabad, Jan 18: India will need 2,840 new aircraft and 41,000 pilots as well as 47,000 technical staff in the next 20 years, R mi Maillard, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia said on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the aviation conclave and exhibition, Wings India 2024, Maillard said Airbus will double its sourcing from India to USD 1.5 billion by the end of the decade from the existing USD 750 million.
He said that last year Airbus got orders for 750 aircraft and delivered 75 units to Indian carriers -- 41 to Indigo, 19 to Air India, 14 to Vistara and one to Go First.
"India is a force that will power global aviation over the next decades...the forecast is that India will require 2,840 new aircraft over the next 20 years to serve the needs of its growing aviation market," he said.
He further said that the A350 aircraft is the catalyst of the revolution in international travel in India and already six of those planes were delivered to Air India last year.
Maillard predicted that in the next 20 years India will remain the fastest growing economy in the world with 6.2 per cent growth annually.
He said Airbus will continue to invest in the engineering and digital space in India and the number of its technical professionals in the country will go up from 3,000 to 5,000 by next year.

Man arrested in Hyderabad for impersonating police officer using AI videos
Hyderabad (PTI): A 27-year-old man was arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly impersonating a police official and uploading fabricated videos on social media platforms to gain followers, police said on Wednesday.
The accused, who worked as a delivery executive with a food delivery aggregator, created and circulated misleading videos using AI-based software.
He falsely depicted himself as a police official and showcased weapons, potentially causing panic and misleading the public, a release from Hyderabad Police said.
Police said it came to their notice that fake videos were being circulated on social media, showing individuals posing as police personnel and displaying weapons.
Upon preliminary inquiry, it was found that the videos were fabricated using AI software and did not represent any real police activity.
The accused unlawfully impersonated a police official and created deceptive digital content, which is a punishable offence under relevant provisions of law.
Such acts can erode public trust and create unnecessary alarm, the release said.
Acting on credible information, police teams apprehended the accused and seized a mobile phone used in the offence.
A case under relevant sections of the BNS and the IT Act, 2000, was registered at Kalapathar Police Station.
Further investigation is underway to determine whether any other persons were involved in the creation and dissemination of such content, police added.
