New Delhi: Mandi MP and BJP leader Kangana Ranaut has sparked controversy in Haryana, likening the farmers' protests to the unrest in Bangladesh, claiming that it could have led to a similar situation in India had the government not taken strong measures.
According to BJP sources, Ranaut’s statement has not been well received by state leaders, especially during the ongoing election season. One BJP leader mentioned, “We have informed the top brass about this issue.” In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, BJP candidates faced significant opposition from farmers in the state.
Party insiders fear Ranaut's comments could reignite farmers' anger and negatively impact the party's chances in certain areas. Another leader criticized her for making such remarks, stating, “She is not even a leader from Haryana. There was no need for her to make such controversial remarks.”
In the video that is circulating widely on social media, Ranaut alleged that during the farmers’ protests, there were instances of bodies hanging and rapes taking place. She also blamed “foreign powers” for fueling the ongoing protests.
BJP state chief Mohan Lal Badoli declined to comment until he had seen the video. Meanwhile, Tejveer Singh, spokesperson for BKU(Shaheed Bhagat Singh), dismissed Ranaut's remarks as an attempt to stay in the limelight, noting that she had remained silent on other human rights issues, such as those in Manipur.

Chennai (PTI): About 1.4 lakh students appeared for the NEET 2026 exam for admission to medical degree courses across 31 centres in Tamil Nadu on Sunday.
Students claimed that the exam paper was easier than the previous year.
Organised by the National Testing Agency (NTA), 22.80 lakh students had registered for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) undergraduate exam nationwide.
NTA sources said that CCTV surveillance was installed at all examination centres, with feeds linked to centralised control rooms.
In view of the large candidate volume and prevailing summer conditions, the NTA ensured reliable power back-up, including generators at all centres, to ensure candidate comfort during the exam. Also, drinking water and on-site medical support were provided to students.
The sources further said that no malpractices were reported, especially in Chennai. The results of NEET are expected to be declared in June, 2026.
