Thiruvananthapuram (PTI): Kerala Chief Minister-designate V D Satheesan, former CM Pinarayi Vijayan, and former General Education Minister V Sivankutty on Friday congratulated students who cleared the SSLC examinations and qualified for higher education.

Satheesan, in a Facebook message, also said that those who could not qualify for higher education this time should not be disheartened, as it is not the last exam or opportunity in life.

He said success in life is determined by much more than just clearing exams.

Vijayan also took to social media to congratulate the students.

In his Facebook post, the Marxist veteran extended his best wishes to those who did not clear the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) or Class 10 examinations and urged them to continue working hard so they can succeed in the Save a Year (SAY) examinations.

Sivankutty, in his Facebook post, said that the pass percentage of 99.07 was an achievement to be proud of and termed it the result of the hard work of students, the efforts of their teachers and parents.

To students who received low grades or did not qualify for higher education, he said it was a new beginning and not the end.

"You should realise that an exam result does not determine the value of your life. Many great people who succeeded in life failed in their exams or fell behind," he said.

Sivankutty further said that students still have an opportunity this year to qualify for higher education through the SAY examinations and urged them to work more diligently.

He also requested parents to support their children with words of encouragement, irrespective of their results, and not to compare them with other children.

The overall pass percentage this year marginally dipped to 99.07 per cent from last year’s 99.50 per cent.

A total of 4,14,290 students from 3,059 schools in Kerala, Lakshadweep, and the Gulf region appeared for the examination, of whom 4,10,456 qualified for higher secondary studies.

As many as 30,514 students secured an A+ in all subjects, a sharp decline from 61,449 last year.
