Madhya Pradesh: Onions worth Rs 22 lakh go missing, empty truck found
Shivpuri (MP), Nov 28: Amid soaring onion prices, a trader claimed here on Thursday that his consignment of the bulb, worth Rs 20 to 22 lakh, has possibly been stolen.
The truck carrying 40 tons of onions, on the way from Nashik in Maharashtra to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, was found in Shivpuri district in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday.
The truck had left Nashik on November 11 and was supposed to reach Gorakhpur on November 22, but it never reached its destination, said Prem Chand Shukla, a wholesaler who had shipped the consignment.
Shukla approached district Superintendent of Police Rajesh Singh Chandel, requesting him to look into the case.
Onion prices are ruling in the region of Rs 100 per kg in Madhya Pradesh at present.
"We will register a case and arrest the culprits," the SP told reporters.
The empty truck was found parked in Tendu police station area, he said, adding that the transporter was a local person.

J&K: One dead, seven hospitalised after consuming wild vegetable in Rajouri
Rajouri/Jammu (PTI): One person died while seven others, mostly children, were hospitalised after allegedly consuming a wild vegetable in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, officials said on Saturday.
The incident was reported from Mohra village in the Kotranka subdivision, where members of two families consumed a wild vegetable following which they started showing symptoms of food poisoning on Friday evening, they said.
The affected persons were initially shifted to the Community Health Centre in Kandi and later referred to the Government Medical College Hospital Rajouri for specialised treatment.
Officials said an elderly man, identified as Mohammad Hussain (60), died during treatment, while seven other members of the two families are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
“Prima facie, it is a case of food poisoning, but the matter is still under investigation,” a doctor said.
Officials said an investigation into the incident has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the poisoning.
