New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has sharply criticized the Modi government's Lateral Entry policy, calling it an attack on the Constitution. In a recent tweet, Kharge highlighted that instead of filling vacant positions in government departments, the BJP has eliminated 5.1 lakh jobs in PSUs over the past decade by selling off government assets. He pointed out that there has been a significant 91% increase in casual and contract recruitment during this period.

Kharge also expressed concern over the reduction of 1.3 lakh positions reserved for SC, ST, and OBC categories as of 2022-23. He accused the government of using the Lateral Entry policy not to bring in experts, but to deprive Dalits, Adivasis, and backward classes of their rights. According to Kharge, positions meant for SC, ST, OBC, and EWS communities are now being allocated to RSS members, a move he sees as a conspiracy by the BJP to undermine reservations and alter the Constitution.

The Centre had earlier opened a fresh round of lateral recruitments, from the private sector and elsewhere, into senior posts in the bureaucracy.

Dhanbad (Jharkhand) (PTI): At least four workers died after being buried under coal slurry in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on Saturday, a police official said.

The incident took place at Moonidih coal washery in the command area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).

"Bodies of all four workers were dug out of debris during a rescue operation," Putki police station in-charge Waqar Hussain told PTI.

The incident took place when coal slurry was being loaded into trucks by workers, during which a large chunk of slurry fell and trapped several workers underneath, officials said.

The deceased have been identified as Manik Bauri, Dinesh Bauri, Deepak Bauri, and Hemlal Gope.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased and local villagers placed the bodies in front of the washery gate and began a protest.

They demanded compensation, jobs for dependents and action against those responsible for the incident.

Police and administration officials are trying to pacify the protesters, an official said.
