Lucknow: What began as a festive tribute to India's favourite summer fruit ended in utter chaos at the Lucknow Aam Mahotsav, where the final day of the event witnessed scenes of confusion as visitors stormed display areas to grab mangoes meant solely for exhibition.
The three-day mango festival, held from July 4 to 6, was organised to celebrate the region's diverse mango varieties and was attended by dignitaries including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath. The event featured separate sections for display, sampling, and sale, drawing large crowds eager to explore the produce.
However, as the festival drew to a close, visitors reportedly ignored public announcements, swarming the exhibition stalls and stealing mangoes in large numbers. The situation quickly spiraled into chaos, with people pushing one another and rushing toward the exits while carrying off the display fruits. Many were seen stuffing mangoes into their dupattas, bags, and even their pockets in a desperate scramble to grab as much as they could.
A video of the incident, now widely circulated on social media, has triggered criticism of both the organisers and the attendees. Many users expressed dismay over the lack of civic sense, discipline, and respect for public spaces.

Comments on the viral clip ranged from disappointment to satire, with users lamenting the erosion of cultural values and civic responsibility. Some pointed to poor event management, while others highlighted the irony of economic progress coexisting with declining public behaviour. “There was a time when self-respect, honour, integrity, and honesty were valued in our culture. It is heartbreaking that we lost it along the way,” a user said. Another wrote, “Low self-esteem paired with lack of civic sense is a perfect recipe for chaos and stampede.”
“Fastest growing GDP with no civic sense, what an irony,” a user added. One user further remarked that given more time, the crowd might have taken the tables and covers home as well.
The organisers are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.

Rickelton's ton in vain as SRH beat MI by 6 wickets
Mumbai (PTI): Ryan Rickelton's whirlwind unbeaten ton was overshadowed by Heinrich Klaasen's unbeaten 65 as Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Mumbai Indians by six wickets in an IPL match here on Wednesday.
Chasing an imposing 244-run target, Travis Head (76 off 30) and Abhishek Sharma (45 off 24) shared 129 runs for the opening wicket to set the platform for SRH.
Klaasen (65 not out off 30 balls) then displayed his all-round hitting abilities to guide SRH home with the help of Nitish Kumar Reddy (21) and Salil Arora (30 not out off 10) in 18.4 overs.
Earlier, Rickelton's knock powered MI to 243 for five.
MI rode on a 93-run stand between Rickelton (123 not out off 55 balls) and Will Jacks (46 off 22) in 7.1 overs for the opening stand to power the side.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya scored a valuable 31 off 15 balls before being dismissed.
Praful Hinge (2/54), Eshan Malinga (1/29), Sakib Hasan (1/39) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (1/31) were the wicket-takers for SRH.
