NCERT allowed to issue Class X, XII certificates equivalent to boards
New Delhi: The Centre has reportedly authorised the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to grant certificates equivalent to the Secondary (Class 10) and Senior Secondary (Class 12) certificates awarded by various school education boards across the country.
A release from the Education Ministry, as cited by The New Indian Express on Saturday, said the notification was published in the e-Gazette on September 6, 2025, by the Department of School Education and Literacy. “This responsibility will be exercised for the purpose of admission of students to higher education institutions and employment under the Central Government, State Governments and Union Territories,” it stated.
The direction supersedes a 2021 order that had entrusted the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with the task.
The Ministry said NCERT would carry out the responsibility through the National Assessment Centre, Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development (PARAKH), established under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
“This institutional mechanism will ensure that equivalence determination is conducted through a robust and academically rigorous process that maintains the highest educational standards,” the statement added.
The report added that the new system applies to Central Government, State Government, and private Indian School Boards established by an Act of Parliament or State legislature, executive orders of the Central Government or State Governments, or by statutory bodies and recognised institutions having the mandate to do so.
“The notification ensures that the equivalence granted by NCERT shall automatically be considered as inter-se parity between the Boards in India, thereby facilitating smooth inter-School Education Board migrations for students across the country,” the statement read.

Man booked for duping 7 persons of Rs 91 lakh on promise of awarding govt works
Mumbai (PTI): The Mumbai police have registered a case against a man for allegedly duping seven persons of Rs 91 lakhs on the promise of awarding them works of different government departments, an official said on Tuesday.
The accused was identified as Satish Kadam, a resident of Nanded in Marathwada region, an official said.
A complaint was filed by Hanumant Vadje, who alleged that the accused cheated him and six others of around Rs 91 lakh by promising to give them various works of Urban Development and Social Justice Department, he said.
The fraud occurred between 2024 and 2026, with Kadam collecting money in cash and into his accounts, police said, adding he had returned some amount to them partially.
Multiple cheques issued by the accused bounced, prompting the victim to lodge a complaint at the Marine Drive police station. Based on the complaint, a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust was registered against him.
The case is under further investigation, the official said.
