Mayurbhanj: In an incident reported by Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, a government school teacher has been suspended for allegedly assaulting 31 students for failing to touch her feet after morning prayers.
The accused, Sukanti Kar, serves as an assistant teacher at Khandadeula Government Upper Primary School, located under the Pratimadeipur cluster in Betnoti block.
According to sources quoted by The New Indian Express on Monday, Kar targeted students from Classes 6, 7, and 8, beating them with a bamboo stick in a fit of rage after they did not touch her feet after the morning prayers.
As many as 31 students sustained injuries due to the assault. Parents rushed to the school upon learning of the incident, demanding immediate disciplinary action against the teacher. The injured children were taken to Betnoti hospital for medical attention.
On being informed by headmaster Purnachandra Ojha, block education officer (BEO) Biplab Kar, CRCC Debashish Sahu and members of school management committee visited the school to investigate the matter. They met the injured students and recorded their statements.
Based on the findings of the inquiry report, BEO Kar suspended the assistant teacher.

New Delhi (PTI): Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 26.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday, 2.4 notches below the seasonal average, according to the India Meteorological Department.
The weather department has forecast partly cloudy sky with an orange alert for heatwave-like conditions at isolated places by the evening.
The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 44 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the IMD said.
The relative humidity in the capital was recorded at 43 per cent at 8.30 am.
The air quality was 'poor' at 9 am, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 223, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed.
According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.
