New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra turned heads in Parliament on Tuesday when she carried a quirky ‘johla’ (bag) featuring caricatures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani. The bag displayed an image of the two figures on one side, with the slogan "Modi Adani Bhai Bhai" printed on the other.
The bag quickly became the centre of attention, drawing a light-hearted reaction from Priyanka's brother, Rahul Gandhi. Amused by the design, Rahul held up the bag during a conversation, checking both sides. After reading the slogan, he smiled and remarked, "Look how cute this is!"
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha further asked Priyanka about the designer of the bag, which prompted a laugh from her.
Priyanka's choice of accessory is the latest in a series of protests by the Opposition, who have been accusing it of avoiding discussions on the bribery charges against Adani in the United States.
Several other Opposition MPs have also been seen carrying such bags in Parliament, raising slogans against what they perceive as collusion between Modi and Adani. They have called for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the matter.
The Congress has said Adani's indictment "vindicates" its demand for a JPC probe into the various "scams" involving the billionaire industrialist's conglomerate. However, the Adani Group has dismissed all allegations as "baseless".
