Muzaffarnagar: A mahapanchayat of the Rajput community in Kheda village, under the Muzaffarnagar Lok Sabha constituency, declared a boycott of BJP candidates in the first phase of Uttar Pradesh's general elections. They protested against the "non-implementation of government schemes, rise in unemployment, Agniveer Scheme, and insult of the Rajput Samaj."

However, the boycott call did not include Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath, who the community leaders stated was their voice not being heard by the central BJP leadership.

During the mahapanchayat, organized by "chaubisi" — a group of 24 villages symbolizing Rajput power — community leaders pledged support for SP candidate Harendra Malik in Muzaffarnagar. In other Lok Sabha seats in the region, they stated they would vote for the candidate with the best chance of defeating the BJP. They also questioned why former Prime Ministers from the Rajput community, V P Singh and Chandra Shekhar, had not been awarded the Bharat Ratna yet.

The mahapanchayat highlighted a similar panchayat held in 2013, related to the Muzaffarnagar riots, which some Rajput leaders believe laid the foundation for the BJP's rise in the state. They claimed that "after 10 years, this panchayat will become the reason for the BJP’s downfall in the region."

The event also saw criticism of BJP candidate Sanjeev Balyan, with allegations of harassment against the Rajput community. Participants expressed anger over ticket distribution, representation, and non-implementation of schemes, emphasizing that no one could win votes by using nationalism, Pakistan, or China as scare tactics. They pledged to unite against divisive politics and bring about change in the government.
