New Delhi: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) will approach the Supreme Court challenging the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025, now enacted into law. RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha and senior party member Fayaz Ahmed are expected to file the petition on Monday, questioning the bill’s provisions that they say could severely affect the management of Waqf properties.
Manoj Jha said the new law threatens the constitutional framework and could disrupt communal harmony. The party maintains that the law undermines the rights of religious communities, especially Muslims, by interfering with the management of Waqf properties—religious endowments held in trust.
The bill has sparked criticism across opposition parties, many of whom see it as discriminatory. Unlike other religious endowments, Waqf properties face additional restrictions under the new law, according to critics.
Congress MP Mohammad Jawed, who was a member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee that reviewed the bill, filed a petition in the Supreme Court on April 4. He called the law unconstitutional and argued that it violates the fundamental rights of Muslims.
AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi also approached the apex court on the same day, opposing the bill’s provisions.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said on April 5 that his party will not pursue legal action against the Waqf Amendment Bill, suggesting the matter is closed for his party.
