Guwahati: Seven Class 11 students of a Central government-run school in Kamrup district of Assam were reportedly taken into police custody on Saturday for alleged sexual assault of a Class 6 boy for three months.

The detained students and the assault victim are minors studying at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Rangia, run by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti under the Ministry of Education.

The school principal filed a police complaint that the victim and the accused stayed at the boys’ hostel of the school. The complainant also told the police that the boy was sexually assaulted by his senior for three months, after which, he informed his parents, who approached the school authorities.

Rangia Police registered an FIR based on the principal’s complaint and detained the seven boys, who have been sent to a correctional home for 14 days by a juvenile court.

The victim’s medical examination has been conducted and police are recording his and the school authorities’ statements.

Police officers have said that the school authorities are under the scanner to find if measures to prevent such activities on campus were in place. Footage of the CCTV cameras on the school and hostel premises is being checked, police sources have said.

Agra (UP) (PTI): Four people were arrested, after a prompt response by police following a social media alert, for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman and a girl inside a moving bus here, officials said on Tuesday.

According to an official police statement, at 12:27 am on April 27, information was received on the social media platform X about an incident of sexual assault on a bus travelling from Kanpur to Ahmedabad, which was approaching Namner crossing in Agra.

Acting under the direction of Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar, the Agra Police social media team immediately alerted the Rakabganj police station within minutes and coordinated with the victims to confirm the incident and obtain the exact location, it stated.

Police teams launched intensive checking at Namner crossing and intercepted the bus as it reached the spot. The four accused involved in the incident were apprehended on the spot, and legal action was initiated against them, the statement said.

The police said the swift response and coordination between the social media team and field units ensured timely action, bringing relief to the victims and other passengers, who expressed gratitude towards the police, it added.
