Ranchi: The absence of Sita Soren, Bharatiya Janata Party's Dumka candidate and former member of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), from a crucial party review meeting has sparked speculation about her political future. The meeting, held to assess the party's performance following its electoral defeat in Jharkhand, was called by state BJP president Babulal Marandi on Saturday. While all other defeated candidates attended, Sita Soren was notably absent.

“I did not find the meeting crucial as it is just a formality to call such meetings, but nothing productive comes out of it,” she said, adding that she was out of the station, as reported by The New Indian Express on Sunday. She also mentioned that she was awaiting directions from the BJP's central leadership regarding her next steps.

When questioned about JMM's efforts to reconcile with former leaders who left the party ahead of the elections, Soren refrained from commenting, calling it an "internal matter." However, party sources revealed to the publication that JMM will launch an all-out campaign to get its leaders back, who have left the party ahead of the polls for numerous reasons. Among those the party hopes to reconcile with are former Chief Minister Champai Soren and former JMM MLA Sita Soren herself, the report added.

JMM general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya recently made headlines by stating that if “Champai dada” wishes to return, the party’s doors would be open to him.

Defying anti-incumbency, the JMM-led alliance INDIA succeeded in securing a formidable majority in the Jharkhand elections. It won in 56 seats out of 81, while the BJP-led NDA won in 24 seats.

Riyadh (AP): Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 100th Saudi Pro League goal as Al-Nassr beat Al-Shabab 4-2 to move five points clear at the top of the table.

The 41-year-old forward converted a Sadio Mané cross at the near post with 15 minutes remaining to record the 971st goal of his career on Thursday. It was also his 26th league goal of the season.

“Ronaldo is always dangerous going forward and we saw that again today,” Al-Nassr coach Jorge Jesus said.

João Félix, signed from Chelsea in July, scored three goals for the league leaders.

The win took Al-Nassr to 82 points from 32 games, five ahead of Al-Hilal, which has three matches, one more than Nassr, left to play. Al-Hilal meets Al-Kholood on Friday and faces Nassr on Tuesday in what could be a title decider against its Riyadh rival.

“Now we have a derby match against our rival, which is a difficult encounter,” Jesus said.

“We are fully aware of its importance, and we are dealing with it with complete focus as we know that small details could decide the result.”

Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d'Or winner, has yet to secure a major trophy in Saudi Arabia since signing with Al-Nassr in December 2022.
