New Delhi: Weeks after the Lok Sabha election results were announced, Leader of Opposition and Raebareli MP Rahul Gandhi has called for respectful discourse towards former Union minister Smriti Irani and other political leaders.
In a post on social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Winning and losing happen in life. I urge everyone to refrain from using derogatory language and being nasty towards Smt. Smriti Irani or any other leader for that matter.” He further added, “Humiliating and insulting people is a sign of weakness, not strength.”
The appeal for civility comes after Irani's defeat in the Amethi constituency, a result declared on June 4. Irani lost to veteran Congress worker and first-time candidate Kishori Lal Sharma by a margin of 1.6 lakh votes.
Following her loss, Irani expressed her gratitude to BJP party workers and supporters in a press conference. She said, “I express my gratitude to all the BJP party workers and supporters, those who have worked in the service of the constituency and the party with utmost dedication and fidelity…Today, I am grateful to PM Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath that their governments have completed the pending works of 30 years in just 5 years. I congratulate those who win. I will continue to be in the service of the people of Amethi.”
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi secured a significant victory in Raebareli, a Congress stronghold, winning by a majority of 4 lakh votes. His message on social media emphasizes the need for respectful political dialogue, regardless of electoral outcomes.

Jaipur (PTI): A student preparing for the NEET examination allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in a rented room in Rajasthan's Sikar on Friday, police said.
According to the police, the student allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan using his sister's scarf while one sister was attending coaching classes and the other was in the bathroom.
He had appeared in the NEET UG exam 2026, which was cancelled due to paper leak, they said.
Udyog Nagar SHO Rajesh Kumar said that the deceased, identified as Pradeep Meghwal, was a resident of Kanika ki Dhani village in Jhunjhunu's Gudha Gaudji area.
He had been living in a rented room in Sikar's Jaldhari Nagar area with his two sisters while preparing for NEET over the last three years.
His elder sister later found him hanging and informed the landlord and police after bringing him down, officials said.
The SHO said the body was kept at SK Hospital mortuary, and a postmortem had not been conducted.
The student's father, Rajesh Kumar Meghwal, told police that Pradeep's NEET examination had gone well and the family was expecting him to score around 650 marks.
Former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot expressed grief over the incident and linked it to anxiety among students after reports of irregularities and paper leaks in NEET 2026.
Pilot said repeated paper leak incidents and cancellation of examinations were affecting students' mental health and demanded a time-bound investigation and strict action against those responsible.
