New Delhi: In a significant ruling, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) announced that the issuing bank must immediately cease the issuance of electoral bonds. Additionally, the State Bank of India (SBI) has been instructed to provide details of donations made through electoral bonds, including information on the political parties that received these contributions.

Furthermore, the CJI directed the SBI to disclose the details of electoral bonds encashed by political parties. These details are to be submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI), which will then publish them on its website by March 13, 2024.

The decision comes as part of the Supreme Court's verdict declaring the electoral bonds scheme unconstitutional, citing violations of the right to information and concerns over transparency in political funding.
