New Delhi: Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala has accused the Haryana government, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, of backtracking on its pre-election job promises by withdrawing advertisements for over 8,000 Group C posts, including a large number of police vacancies.
Addressing a press conference and later posting on social media platform X on Thursday (June 19), Surjewala said the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) had cancelled 8,653 job openings, which were initially announced on August 14, 2024, just hours before the assembly election announcement. He alleged that the move was a political gimmick meant to mislead the youth.
"Shri Nayab Saini announced these jobs, made grand promises, and even claimed he wouldn't take oath as Chief Minister until these jobs were filled. But it was all a farce. Now, he jokes around in helicopters while the youth are knocking on doors for their future," Surjewala wrote.
According to him, the withdrawn advertisements included:
1. 5,666 posts in the Haryana Police,
2. 1,838 stenographer jobs,
3. 535 draftsman/assistant draftsman positions,
4. 319 auto diesel mechanic roles, and
5. 180 fitter/press mechanic posts, among others.
Surjewala also criticised the BJP-led state government’s handling of the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN), claiming that while 50,000 jobs were promised through HKRN before the 2024 elections, 4,000 youth have already been terminated post-elections, with uncertainty looming over the rest.
Taking a dig at the state leadership, Surjewala likened the BJP’s job promises to a scripted drama: “धोखा-छल-कपट की भाजपाई फिल्म,” he wrote, calling CM Nayab Saini the lead actor, former CM Manohar Lal Khattar the director, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi the producer of a film titled: “बेवकूफ बनाओ, उल्लू सीधे करते जाओ।”

In response to the allegations, the Chief Minister’s media secretary, Praveen Attrey, dismissed the charges. Speaking to The Hindu, Attrey said the Congress had a history of arbitrary appointments and job-sale allegations. He claimed that the BJP government had provided 1.75 lakh jobs based on merit.
“CM Nayab Singh Saini distributed 24,000 appointment letters before taking oath. The recruitment process through the Common Entrance Test is ongoing, and more jobs will be given soon. The Chief Minister is committed to fulfilling all electoral promises,” Attrey said.

Bhatkal: The Karnataka unit of the All India Ideal Teachers Association (AIITA) has welcomed the Karnataka government’s decision to strictly ban school children from dancing to obscene songs during educational and cultural programmes in government, aided, and private schools across the state.
AIITA Karnataka State President M. R. Manvi congratulated the government for taking what he termed an important step to preserve the sanctity of education.
“Such decisions to safeguard the dignity of school children and uphold the values of education are the need of the hour. This rule should not be limited to government schools alone but must be strictly implemented in all private educational institutions as well,” he said.
He further urged the government to address other concerns within school programmes.
“The government should not only prohibit obscene dances in the name of school anniversaries, but also ensure that plays and dialogues that incite religious hatred are avoided. Schools should be centres of harmony, not platforms for spreading hatred,” he added.
According to a recent circular issued by the Department of School Education and Literacy, obscene dances are adversely affecting the mental health and moral values of students.
In this regard, schools have been advised to use songs that promote nationalism, positive thinking, the greatness of Kannada culture, and value-based traditions instead of inappropriate content during programmes.
The circular also emphasises that students should be dressed in decent attire.
AIITA also backed the department’s warning that disciplinary action would be taken against head teachers if such guidelines are violated. The association has further demanded that district Deputy Directors of Public Instruction strictly monitor the implementation of these rules.
