Chennai: Suryaa Raaja Baalu, son of Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Raja, refused to allow BJP leader K. Annamalai to place a medal around his neck at the 51st State Shooting Games.
Annamalai, who was invited as chief guest, had been garlanding winners as part of the ceremony. But Suryaa declined the gesture and opted to accept the medal in hand during the ceremony, as reported by India Today on Tuesday.
This incident follows a similar act of defiance just two weeks earlier at the 32nd convocation of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in Tirunelveli. Doctoral student Jean Joseph, the wife of DMK’s Nagercoil Deputy Secretary M Rajan, walked past Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi during her degree presentation, choosing to receive her degree from the Vice Chancellor instead.
She later explained that her decision was a protest against the Governor’s “anti-Tamil” stance and her support for the Dravidian model of governance, which she felt aligned more closely with the Vice Chancellor’s values.
