New Delhi: The Central government has urged Governors to become “more pro-active on social media, connect with the public, and promptly share their views, especially when there are differences of opinion between the Centre and the states on policy,” as reported by the Indian Express. This recommendation is included in an official agenda note signed by President Droupadi Murmu, ahead of the two-day Conference of Governors starting on Friday.
Another suggestion emphasises the role of Governors in enhancing coordination among Central agencies and organisations within states to prevent isolated operations, according to the news outlet. It suggests that Raj Bhavan could facilitate better cooperation among these entities, potentially benefiting governance in areas such as job creation, education, skilling, services, and growth.
An official statement from the President’s Secretariat outlines the conference agenda, which includes the implementation of three criminal laws, reforms in higher education, and development of focus areas such as tribal regions and aspirational districts, as reported by the Indian Express.
Additionally, the Centre has recommended that Governors hold regular open forums and roundtable discussions with community leaders, and engage directly with citizens, including reaching out to schools and hospitals.
The conference will be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 2 and 3, 2024. It will be the first Conference of Governors presided over by Murmu and will be attended by the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister, several other ministers, and senior government officials.
